The Library of Michigan's newspaper collections are not just archives, but powerful tools for uncovering hidden stories, tracking systemic issues, and bringing important narratives to light.

With a simple digital library card, Michiganders can access an expansive collection of newspapers spanning local and national publications. The Library of Michigan collection includes historical archives of major Michigan newspapers like the Detroit Free Press (dating back to 1831), Detroit News (from 1873), and the Michigan Chronicle, alongside local publications from cities across the state including Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, and Kalamazoo. The library also provides access to major national newspapers with deep historical archives, such as the Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. Head to the "Online Resources for Library Cardholders" page and click on the Newspapers/Periodicals tab to see the full list.
